Coinbase Custody is “exploring” on adding support for 39 new digital assets, according to an official blog post from Oct. 16, 2020.
All Digital Assets Might Not Get Listed on Due to Regulatory Bottlenecks
The list of 39 digital assets includes from the likes of Tron (TRX), BitTorrent Token (BTT), Neo (NEO), VeChain (VET). DeFi tokens such as Aave (AAVE), Curve (CRV), Wrapped Bitcoin (wBTC) are also on Coinbase’s exploration list for adding support.
Recently, Filecoin (FIL) token was listed on the exchange ahead of its much-anticipated mainnet launch.
The crypto custody service have also highlighted that the digital assets under review for listing might not be available in all in all of its supported jurisdictions due to regulatory bottlenecks, saying “Our decision to support any asset for custody requires significant technical and compliance review and may be subject to regulatory approval in some jurisdictions. We therefore cannot guarantee whether or when any above-listed asset will be available for Coinbase Custody in any jurisdiction”.
The post continued “We will add custody support jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction, subject to applicable review and authorizations. The omission of assets from this publication does not disqualify any such asset from active review and potential custody support.”
For instance, In August 2018, VeChain (VET) was on the list of Coinbase’s custody support, although as of yet it is still not listed.
Coinbase Custody Also Supports Staking, Governance, DeFi and more
Coinbase crypto exchange started offering its custodian service back in July 2018 in Europe and North America. Today the company has over 500 customers, guarding over $15 billion worth institutional cryptocurrencies.
Recently, the exchange also listed FTX (FTT) and Serum (SRM) to expand its services to international clients in Asia-Pacific.
Besides, providing high grade security and insurance protection, Coinbase Custody has remained on the leading front in providing crypto-native features such as staking, governance and decentralized finance (DeFi) and more.
