The<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Highway_Administration"> Federal Highway Administration</a> (FHWA) would examine the possibilities of blockchain technologies and artificial intelligence to transform transportation in the USA. In a broad agency announcement (BAA), the organization is looking to provide contracts to appropriate research organizations to explore both artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies together with including the disused plastic's use in asphalt cement.

Blockchain technology has been recognized for providing privacy and security of data for transactions on peer-to-peer networks, and a technology that has underpinned<a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/tag/bitcoin/"> Bitcoin</a>. Apart from that security benefits of blockchain technology to freight logistics and its use for managing autonomous vehicle (CAV) industry data have also gained significant traction in recent times.
<h2>Use Of Artificial Intelligence In Highway Transportation</h2>
The Exploratory Advanced Research Program of FHWA is also exploring demonstration of Artificial Intelligence in new essential areas of highway transportation that could include and are not restricted by combining the data of non-traditional and traditional highway to better predict and explain the performance of the system.

FHWA is also looking at improving the data processing capability by eliminating or reducing the requirement to manual data pre-processing and the need for rare expertise, enhancing sensor signal data to evaluate current conditions of structures or pavements, or giving decision support which would aid experts in operations, design or management of highway systems.
<h2>An Advancement In Highway Engineering</h2>
The FHWA cited that it was requesting for proposals for research projects within its EAR Program that could result in truly revolutionary advances and transformational changes in intermodal surface transportation and highway engineering in the USA. 

The organization further cited that the program promoted scientific investigations and studies that improve the prevailing state-of-the-art and knowledge in the sciences and technologies applied in the design, planning, operation, maintenance, construction and management of the country's highways.  By 18 February, the interested group are asked to submit their questions related to the project, and research proposals are due by 20 March.
