Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) has moved to<a href="https://www.fincen.gov/news/news-releases/fincen-welcomes-michael-mosier-deputy-director-and-digital-innovation-officer" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> appoint</a> former Chief of Strategic Advancement, Michael Mosier in a new role as the agency's Deputy Director and its first Digital Innovation Officer. Before his latest appointment by FinCEN, Mosier served at Chainalysis as the Chief Technical Counsel. He joined Chainalysis back in June 2019, just after leaving the Treasury. It's worth noting that FinCEN is part of the United States Treasury.

Following the appointment, Mosier is now the agency’s first-ever Digital Innovation Officer. He will help FinCEN to adjust to the ever-changing world of financial technology and digital assets. Mosier has prior experience in working for FinCEN as he previously served at the agency before he left for a new job at blockchain analysis firm, Chainalysis.

Moreover, Chainalysis is one of the world’s best blockchain data analysis solution providers. The firm tracks, monitors and investigates digital currency transactions using technology; to maintain transparency in the sector. Chainalysis works with government agencies, corporations and even individuals around the world.

In addition, FinCEN director, Kenneth Blanco, commented on Mosier’s rehiring in the new role. Blanco said:

Michael is the right person, with the right skills, at exactly the right time.”</blockquote>
On top of his technical and strategic skills, Mosier brings with him a broad knowledge pool on matters blockchain technology and vast legal experience. Indeed, he previously served at the United States Department of Justice’s Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section; as the deputy chief. Furthermore, he served  Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control as the associate director.

The reforms include the possible imposition of the bills presented before the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate in 2019. The enforcement of the bills would require corporations to disclose their human owners, and require them to update their information regularly with the agency.
