The Finnish Population Register Centre is preparing a simulated ransomware cyberattack on more than 200 Finnish Cities and public organizations. In Nov 22,  A Finnish news outlet reported that participating organisations and cities are rehearsing attack response. 

Furthermore, where a group of hackers demand participants to pay ransomware during a series of <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/crypto/cryptocurrency-mining-malware-discovered-affecting-more-than-500000-computers/">simulated </a>cyber attacks. 235 public organisations were part of the operation. The organisations were thereby later on put into threat by an activist hacker group threatening to conduct cyber attacks; unless if paid a ransom fee in Bitcoin by a given date. 

According to the organizers,  the focus was to exploit loopholes in enforcement’s ability to handle a cyber attack more effectively. Therefore strengthening the cities’ and organizations’ ability to handle a cyber threat more effectively. Nevertheless, the Population Register Centre which operates under the Ministry of Finance; had already organized two such days for rehearsals and the third one set for next week.

<h2>Crypto-ware is still the most prominent cyber attack</h2>
Back in October, the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) released its 2019 Internet Organized Crime Threat Assessment (IOCTA) report. In the report, Europol painted a troublesome recurring image of cryptocurrency-ransomware remaining the most profound cyber attack confronting European cybercrime investigators. According to Europol, cybercrime must be approached in a holistic sense; meanwhile:

<h2>Ransomware attacks up 118%</h2>
Cybersecurity Firm McAfee Labs released its threat report for 2019 that highlighted increasing amount of ransomware attacks in the Q1 2019. The firm explained that among these ransomware campaigns, one implemented the <a href="https://www.beforecrypt.com/en/ryuk-ransomware-recovery/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ryuk</a> Malware Family. A ransomware attack that broke out early in the year and went on to hinder newspaper printing in the United States.
