The Indian Supreme Court has postponed the hearing that would consider Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) ban on providing services to cryptocurrency-related business entities.
Originally, the hearing of the case was scheduled on October 15. The hearing was about the ban that will prohibit banks and financial institutions from providing services to cryptocurrency-related businesses.  According to the <a href="https://news.bitcoin.com/indian-supreme-court-sets-date-to-hear-crypto-case-next-week/">c</a><a href="https://news.bitcoin.com/indian-supreme-court-sets-date-to-hear-crypto-case-next-week/">ourt order</a> issued earlier this month, the case was to be listed “top of the board,” giving the Indian digital currency community hope that the case would be resolved today.
However, according to Indian news portal Crypto Kanoon, Crypto Kanoon the case was scheduled as item number two in courtroom number five today. “Since three judges bench has assembled today in Court no. 5,” according to the report, “The court could not hear the case.” The court order for this case was published on Tuesday. It reads:
<blockquote><strong><em>“Upon hearing the counsel the court made the following order … List on Tuesday, the 19th November, 2019 as first item, subject to overnight part-heard, if any.”</em></strong></blockquote>
Moreover, the court shifted the hearing to November 12. However, the date was further shifted to November 19 due to national holidays in India; which falls on the initial set date.
<h2>RBI Wants Cryptocurrencies Banned in India</h2>
Interestingly, the Supreme Court of<a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/crypto/inside-the-142-million-crypto-scam-leading-to-arrest-of-four-indian/"> India</a> challenged RBI on its handling of the crypto ban. However, it was ordered to address the complaints and justify them in two weeks’ time.
According to a circular released by RBI in April; banks are prohibited from providing services to any person or business dealing with cryptocurrencies. It added that it was exploring to release its own digital currency in the future.
In addition, following the release of that circular, the High Court of Delhi challenged the RBI. It stated the decision by RBI to end cryptocurrency business violates the constitution. Regardless, Supreme Court has continued upholding the RBI ban even after hearing petitions.
