Libra Association has recently announced a new appointment to replace General Counsel, Robert Werner. Libra has appointed Steven Bunnel, the former U.S. Homeland Security Department general counsel as its top lawyer.

Bunnel left the Homeland Security Department in 2017 and has been working with O’Melveny & Myers before becoming the top lawyer of Libra Association. The firm has appointed a new top lawyer for the second time in only three months.

Libra appointed Robert Werner back in May

This new appointment by the Libra Association has been made by replacing Wener and according to him, he decided to depart as the firm has asked him to leave his position. He has also praised Bunnel by saying, “Steve is an outstanding lawyer and a great guy.”

The firm appointed Werner back in May and before this, he was serving as the director for the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). Werner also served as the senior counsel to The Under Secretary of The Treasury. According to the reports, his departure has not been publicly announced by the firm, rather he was quietly removed from the list of executives of the firm.

Appointment coming two weeks after Facebook launched new product division

As the Libra Association announces the appointment of Bunnel, it is noted that the appointment is coming two weeks after Facebook has launched its new product division. It was revealed that this new product division is focused on payments and commerce opportunities and it will be headed by David Marcus co-creator of Libra.

This division will be introducing the payment option in Whatsapp within some selected markets which also includes India and Brazil. It has been seen that through all the memberships with some of the leading companies like Facebook, Uber, and many others, the firm is trying to create a crypto payment network.
