Companies like Uber which provide riding services have been a massive success amongst the community.  A new start-up in Nairobi, Kenya is looking to follow suit but in a different way and by relying on blockchain technology. Riders in Kenya and many other developing nations have trust issues when it comes to who is coming to pick them up. In order to address such concern, UTU technologies most famous startup Maramoja would look to utilize blockchain technology to provide users with drivers based on trust and not on cost, unlike Uber.  They also <a href="https://disrupt-africa.com/2019/12/kenyan-ai-startup-utu-raises-500k-bridge-funding-round/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">raised </a>$500,000 in December 2019.

The CEO of UTC Technologies Rahul Srivastav stated that the comfort of the customer is not a priority for the San Francisco based Uber, whereas Maramoja wants it to be the backbone of the company.  Through the use of social graphs and feedback, Maramoja will match you with the driver you'd most likely have a good time with and also allow users to give back feedback and rate their driver through videos.

The way Maramoja work is just like any other riding app, you open the website or app and book the driver. However, the driver won't be randomly chosen, it'd be done keeping your comfort in mind by seeing how your friend, friend of friends or social media rates him as your perfect pair.

The app is a blessing bestowed upon Nairobi, a city famous for driers who charge extremely high and loot the people. Even worse, there have been instances of robbery and rape and so odds of Maramoja being a splendid success are high, given it would recommend you a driver your friends trusted and his details would be more deeply available rather than just a random name.

The CEO highlighted that there are a few hurdles along the way, with one being that blockchain technology is not that popular in the country.
