Torrance city officials are facing a huge problem as the crucial data has been stolen and published by a ransomware gang. This happened because the officials have denied to give them private data. It has been <a href="https://abc7.com/cyber-attack-torrance-city-of-in/5978361/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">reported </a>that this ransomware gang has published both private and financial data of Torrance city online. This is a huge problem that has come up in front of local officials as they have claimed that all the private data of the residents of the city is secured.

The gang is now demanding 100 BTC which is worth $700,000, to not leak any more data. They have been threatening to leak an extra 200 GB data. These files from where they have been releasing data were stolen in a cyberattack which took place on March 01.
<h2>Ransomware gang posted a sample of files on a website</h2>
The cyberattack in which these files have been stolen have destroyed all the backups of the data. It has also encrypted a huge amount of servers and workstations as well.

In order to make the officials believe, the ransomware gang has also created a website named “Dopple Leaks” and has posted a few samples of the files which have been leaked. These files include the budget financials of the city, accounting and other crucial documents which belonged to Torrance’s city manager. The financial data which has been revealed through this gang belongs to the fiscal year 2019.
<h2>Drop-in such cyber attacks</h2>
Although this is a huge attack for the city of Torrance, it has also been revealed that there is a drop in such ransomware cyber attacks. It has been noticed in the public sector of the U.S. for the first quarter of 2020 that there is a huge drop in such attacks.

Through several reports, it came out that such kinds of ransomware attacks might be seasonal. However, it has been reported by FBI that from October 2013 to November 2019, the victims have paid around $144 million to such ransomware gangs.
