In 2014, one of the most famous hacks made to an exchange of <a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/'">digital currencies</a> occurred. Mt. Gox, who at that time handled more than 70% of all Bitcoin (BTC) transactions in the world, suffered an attack where approximately 450 million dollars were lost.

However, a law firm in Russia, called ZP Legal (Zheleznikov and Partners), offering former exchange users the opportunity to recover almost a quarter of the 850,000 stolen Bitcoins.

ZP Legal estimated that between 170,000 and 200,000 bitcoin, which have a current value between 1.7billion to 2billion dollars, can be recovered by taking legal action against Russian citizens who received the stolen money.

The managing partner of ZP Legal, Alexander Zheleznikov, believes that part of the money stolen from Mt. Gox could have ended up in another crypto exchange house that was forced to cease operations, BTC-e. In fact, this is an old claim made first by Kim Nilsson, a former worker of Mt. Gox, which is being processed in the United States District Court of the Northern District of California.

Zheleznikov explained that his legal firm's plan is to "represent the creditors of Mt. Gox and help them inform the Russian police so that investigators can establish the connection between the stolen funds of Mt. Gox, the operations of BTC-e and WEX, using the case of Vinnik «.

Alexander Vinnik is a Russian citizen who allegedly was an operator of BTC-e. In July 2017 he was arrested in Greece and now faces extradition to the United States, Russia or France, where he will be tried on money laundering charges.

The idea of ​​ZP Legal is to link both cases, that of Vinnik and Mt. Gox, in order to recover part of the funds of those affected:
