The TON Foundation, a decentralized layer-1 blockchain from Telegram, has announced the addition of a new crypto payments features to the messaging app. Users can now send Toncoin, the platform’s native cryptocurrency to other Telegram users without any transaction fees.

Telegram's new crypto feature launched on April 28 is similar to Twitter’s Bitcoin payments feature, which has been offered through its Tip Jar feature since September last year. Twitter, however, uses Stripe’s Lightning Network feature for such payments.

To use the new feature, users must first download and install Telegram’s official Wallet bot, which allows them to buy cryptocurrencies using a bank card, to buy, trade, or send them to other wallets. Users can then send Bitcoin (BTC) or Toncoin to other users by clicking on the “Wallet” icon in direct messages.

“With this service, you’ll no longer need to enter long wallet addresses and wait for confirmations,” the Foundation said in a tweet announcing the feature.

The goal, according to the TON Foundation, is to “feel like sending a text message”. According to the company, the bot has already been utilized by 800,000 Telegram accounts.
<h2><strong>Telegram Community Kept Toncoin Alive</strong></h2>
The original TON crypto project was abandoned by Telegram in August 2020 following a lawsuit from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The foundation, however, recently raised $1 billion worth of TON from its users to advance the project.
