The United Arab Emirates' Ministry of Community Development (MOCD) launches a Blockathon competition aimed at developing blockchain software for the community. The competition dubbed "Social Blockathon," aims to provide possible solutions for recreational, educational, and social sector.

Per the report, Blockathon is a new program that unites graphic and interface designers, programming specialists to develop blockchain software. The ministry <a href="http://wam.ae/en/details/1395302792480">announced </a>the development in GITEX Technology Week 2019 held at Dubai World Trade Center. 

It aims at providing solutions and applications for the <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/crypto/the-golden-m-group-to-launch-new-gold-based-cryptocurrency-in-uae-market/">UAE</a> community at large. This includes families, senior emiratis, and Public Non-Benefit Associations in the areas of awareness and social care, and others. 

The participants are to collaboratively and promptly, deliver programs, per the report. Each team creatively works on a different idea of ​​a system that can serve the community using the blockchain technology.

The ministry warned against already-made apps, as the idea must complete and implemented on time. Hence, using pre-designed software is prohibited, and the application should be a web or mobile app that coincides with Blockchain.

The intellectual rights of the participating applications are for the party that proposed it, while the Ministry of Community Development owns the intellectual property rights of the participating and winning applications, the report reads.

According to Saeed Abdulla, Information Technology Advisor at the Ministry of Community Development, applications for Blockathon ends 1st February 2020.

The judging criteria for the "Social Blockathon" competition are based on specific features such as includes security, innovation and application. The quality of the final report and presentation, its connectivity with other applications and systems, accuracy, scalability matters too.

The ministry plans to give a total of AED60,000 ($16,334) to the winners, during the UAE Innovation Month in February 2020. Prizes goes as follows: AED30,000 for the first place, AED20,000 for the second, and AED10,000 for the third place.".
