A cryptographer, Mike Stay, who did Ph.d in Computer Science and also has an extensive <a href="https://reperiendi.wordpress.com/2020/04/03/how-i-recovered-over-300k-of-bitcoin/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">background</a> in cryptography, recently discussed, how he “cracked the encrypted zip” file from man. The same man hired Stay after reading his paper on the same topic which he wrote twenty years ago.
<h2>Bitcoin Can Not Be Encrypted Using Latest Techniques</h2>
In the year 2016, the man bought Bitcoins worth $300K, whose private key was hidden in that file and the man forgot that.

Stay did not take much time to crack the password, neither did he compromise with any information on Bitcoin protocol. The file, he had encrypted contained much private information but he did not hamper that.

According to the experts, the encryption of Bitcoin and some of the top altcoins are very secure and it is useless to crack it using the latest technique. If their pass-keys are not stored properly, then there would be a risk of theft or loss.

Unfortunately, most of the crypto-investors stores their keys in an unencrypted file which put the coins at high risk. It is true that most of the cryptocurrency losses and theft happen because of user error.

Stay’s story is not the first case, there have been many people who forgot their pass-keys and because of that, they lost their Bitcoins. In the present time, around 25 percent of the Bitcoins have been lost.

A report suggests that over one million Bitcoins were owned by Satoshi Nakamoto and now it has been more than ten years, they are constant.

While storing a cryptocurrency, the user should follow proper security guidelines. They should safely store their password and encrypt the files using the latest technologies, otherwise, they might lose their coins forever. However, no one can guarantee total security, therefore, it is important for the users to take care of their account and passkeys by themselves.
