The techniques of hackers and scammers are evolving as they incorporate more technological tools into their operations. Patrick Hillmann, the chief communications officer (CCO) of Binance, <a href="https://www.binance.com/en/blog/community/scammers-created-an-ai-hologram-of-me-to-scam-unsuspecting-projects-6406050849026267209" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">revealed</a> last week that <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/news/hackers-transferred-9-million-to-nomad-after-cross-chain-bridge-exploit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hackers</a> had exploited his image in a unique and complex listing fake scheme.

In a Zoom meeting, members of numerous cryptocurrency projects were scammed by an AI hologram of Hillmann. According to the Binance CCO, who claimed that hackers were able to manipulate the hologram. These projects were duped into believing that Hillmann was a part of the scheme and that they were being evaluated for the listing process at Binance.

These members wrote to Hillmann to thank him for his assistance in the alleged listing possibilities, and Hillmann responded, which led to the discovery of the listing scam. However, he was unaware of these meetings since he is not involved in the listing process at Binance. Hillmann did not reveal the names of the targeted cryptocurrency projects or the amount invested in the alleged listing services.

The CCO of Binance also warned about an increase in such impersonation scams across all social media networks. Regarding this, Hillmann said:
<blockquote><em>"Beyond this latest incident, there’s been a recent spike in hackers pretending to be Binance employees and executives on platforms such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Telegram, etc. We are prepared to defend our users and our ecosystem."</em></blockquote>
Hillmann confirmed that the listing procedure of Binance does not involve third parties, and project listing suggestions are exclusively accepted via a direct listing application website. According to a blog post written last year, Binance does not charge a set listing fee for these projects.
