Following Tron Founder’s $1 million donation to Swedish Activist Great Thunberg on Dec 18. The activist takes part in raising global awareness on climate crises. During the Madrid COP25 UN Climate Conference, Justin Sun tweeted: 

After the donation, the crypto community was left in confusion as to the reason for the pledge.  For instance, several crypto fans came out asking how cryptocurrency would take care of carbon footprints; through the i<a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/crypto/justin-sun-announces-new-tron-acquisition-genuine-or-pump-tactic/">mplementation</a> of decentralized settlements. 
<h2>Cloud Computing Systems</h2>
As a result blockchain reporters reached out to Sun regarding the issue. The Tron Founder told the press that decentralized financial platforms and decentralized platforms usually run on cloud computing systems. A method that efficiently eliminates the need for paper documentation. Paper documentation - a common bulk for the traditional financial platform. 

“Decentralized settlement and decentralized finance are completely run by computers on cloud computing systems, thus eliminating the need for ledger documentation and management records kept on paper.”

Furthermore, these cloud computing systems don’t rely on transportation infrastructure. This is because everything is digital. A system such as this would, therefore, ensure people do not travel a lot, hence loosening a massive burden from the environment. The travel industry for instance accounts for at least eight percent of the global carbon footprint.

The whole Know Your Customer process also requires face-to-face interaction, which sometimes makes it necessary for people to travel. All of this will not be compulsory when decentralized finance is utilized.”</blockquote>
<h2>Point of Sale Systems</h2>
Justin Sun also suggested that the implementation of Point of Sales(POS) systems was another effective means for reducing energy consumption. Especially given the bulk energy traditional Proof of Work (PoW) medium of mining Bitcoin.  A recent study revealed that <a href="https://www.investopedia.com/terms/b/bitcoin-mining.asp">Bitcoin Mining</a> emits at least 22 megatons of Carbon yearly; a total emission equivalent to that of cities such as Vienna and Las Vegas. 

“By adopting a POS system, it drastically reduces the massive energy consumption used in traditional POW mining method used by Bitcoin.”
