Karamba Security has<a href="https://europe.autonews.com/suppliers/cybersecurity-key-safe-connectivity-expert-says"> introduced</a> ThreatHive, a tool that provides end-to-end automotive cybersecurity prevention solutions. ThreatHive is set to track cybersecurity vulnerabilities by using electronic control units (ECUs). It will be providing details of actual online attacks on OEMs and suppliers' ECUs during development.
To help identify vulnerabilities, Karamba is programmed to conduct tests on autonomous and connected vehicles. The Security firm plans to create replicas of automotive control units which are then left unsecured and prone to hackers. Using ThreatHive, the company can then track attempted cyberattacks worldwide.
<h2>How ThreatHive Works</h2>
ThreatHive provides automobile OEMs and tier-1 suppliers a view of actual online attacks on their ECUs during development. This gives the automotive security industry a platform for early discovery of security vulnerabilities.

It works with Karamba Security's Carwall in-vehicle security software that automatically secures connected cars against cyberattacks. Carwall keeps connected and autonomous vehicles safe by sealing the car's ECU software. Doing so automatically prevents cyberattacks from infiltrating the vehicle and compromise safety.

ThreatHive implements a comprehensive set of hosted automotive ECUs, in the simulation of a "car-like" environment. The system automatically monitors the software images to identify automobile attack patterns, tools, and vulnerabilities in the operating system, configuration, and code.

By using the hackers' crowd effect, the offering enables and speeds up discovery. It also reduces OEMs' and tier-1 suppliers' investment in penetration testing during the narrow time window of product acceptance tests.

"In the world of autonomous and connected vehicles, you can't have true safety, unless you have cybersecurity." This was the message from <a href="https://www.crunchbase.com/person/ami-dotan">Ami Dotan</a>, CEO of Karamba Security.

Earlier in the week, Karamba carried out a test that resulted in around 12,000 attempted attacks in one day. One hacker used impersonation to attack automotive control units. The protocol they used allows OEMs or tier-1s to change the code, if legitimate. The security firm was able to stop the attack in time.

Ami said that the results from this exercise proved his point. "Connected vehicles are prone to be attacked, just like any other thing." He added that cybersecurity should be a built-in feature and should not be treated as an afterthought.
