Ripple launches University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) In Japan.

Ripple has announced partnership with two Japanese universities for its Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI). Following the inclusion of Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo, the initiative has now partnered with 33 universities in 14 nations worldwide.

The goal of UBRI is to further research on Blockchain technology. Ripple hope to equip the developers of tomorrow with adequate knowledge to support its vision of future digital economy. While sharing more details on the partnership, SVP of global operations at Ripple, Miltenburg stated that:

“University partners will continue to increase positive awareness of the transformative impact that Blockchain technology will have across various industries. As the industry matures, the academic community plays a pivotal role in paving the road for innovative companies and entrepreneurs leveraging Blockchain technologies and digital assets. Expanding the UBRI network across the globe to a wide range of university partners will only continue to promote and accelerate the development of Blockchain technology and use cases.”


Miltenburg believes that Blockchain knowledge is vital for the next generation of people. Engineers, entrepreneurs and doctors, bankers and developers should get the expertise they need to create better products.

The University of Tokyo will host public seminars which will focus on Blockchain and settlement along with other research projects. These projects will focus on the upcoming financial system and regulatory approaches to it. Additionally, the institution will be awarding scholarships to students partaking Blockchain research.

Meanwhile, at University of Kyoto’s Graduate School of School of Advanced Integrated Studies in Human Suitability, they have held workshops as well as fund-raised research projects. The projects have explored Blockchains application in addressing various world issues relating to diverse fields of study such as business, engineering and public policy.

In conclusion

So far, UBRI has partnered with a number of top higher education institutions from 14 countries worldwide. The press release stated that each of Ripples Partner University is free to determine their own research topics; and key focus areas. It further states that Ripple provides financial services to promote Blockchain education at the institutions. Additionally, it will offer expertise and technical resources when needed.
