A legal petition has been filed against YouTube and its parent company Google for not banning the content related to fake Bitcoin giveaway scams on their platform. The case has been filed by the lawyers of Steve Wozniak and 17 other people, who recently have been affected by this scam.

While making an <a href="https://www.cpmlegal.com/news-Steve-Wozniak-and-Victims-Sue-YouTube-and-Google-Over-Bitcoin-Giveaway-Scam" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announcement</a> on July 22, the law firm of Cotchett, stated that Pitre &amp; McCarthy, Google and its subsidiary YouTube was not able to protect its users from falling into the fake Bitcoin giveaway scam because the channel features the image and videos of some celebrities like Wozniak.
<h2>YouTube Did Not Take Action, Says Wozniak</h2>
After the hackers hijacked the channels they started a giveaway scam and announced that if a person would send a cryptocurrency to a specific address then in return they will be rewarded with the double amount, but the fact was people did not receive anything.

Wozniak blamed the video-sharing platform YouTube for this scam and stated that if it had taken a timely action then none of the people would have taken action against it and its parent company.

He further stated, “YouTube, like Google, seems to rely on algorithms and no special effort requiring custom software was employed quickly in these cases of criminal activity. If a crime is being committed, you must be able to reach humans capable of stopping it.”
<h2>YouTube Knew About Scam</h2>
Joe Cotchett, who is one of the partners at Cotchett, recently blamed Pitre &amp; McCarthy, YouTube for not banning the Bitcoin scam. He stated that the platform knew about this scam and still did not do anything for months, despite they promoted it and earned profit by selling the advertisements.

Along with Wozniak, other people who became the victim of this scam belonged to the US, Canada, the UK, Japan, Malaysia, China and Europe.

Before Wozniak, Ripple Labs had filed a case against YouTube in a similar matter, but the video-sharing platform was released from it.
