The leading <a href="https://www.barrons.com/press-release/PR-CO-20191027-900764?tesla=y">American food purchasing firm</a>, Topco Associates will deploy the Mastercard blockchain technology. The deployment of the technology aims to trace the origins of its meat and seafood supplies.

As per the press release on Oct 27, Topco will trial a traceability platform established by logistics company, Invisible. The Walmart platform is set up on a Mastercard blockchain-based provenance solution.

Improving the supply chain process could be the most adopted use of blockchain technology.  Because there is a vast scope for enhancing with respect to ownership records, data recording, and other supply chain incompetence.
<h3>Blockchain Offers the Enhancement in Food Supply Chains</h3>
Blockchain technology has come up with a vast application in the food sector with various leading firms.

World's largest American retailer Walmart started using blockchain technology in food chain supply. This deployment is to track the Indian shrimp supply chain earlier this month. This is the first time that any company has deployed a blockchain technology to track shrimp from the country. In June, Walmart China began the use of VeChain's Thor blockchain to track food via its supply chain.

Previously, the retailer started blockchain technology enables the company to recall product way quickly in the moment of possible health concerns.

In August, the largest supermarket chain and retailer of Switzerland, Migros declared the deployment of TE-Food's blockchain tech solution for enhanced tracking of supply and distribution.

Recently, the Head of blockchain solutions at <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/crypto/how-dubai-is-aiming-to-become-the-first-blockchain-powered-city-by-2020/">Information Services Group</a> (ISG), Alex Manders has made an urge to the Food and Drug Administration ( FDA). The urge was to provide transparent and proper guidance on blockchain applications to enhance the safety of food.

At an FDA public meeting "A New Era of Smarter Food Safety" Manders said that the regulatory entity should release some significant guidance on the usage of blockchain for the safe food and supply chains.

ISG put some challenging factors in the adoption of blockchain technology in food supply chains on the table. Such as the unawareness of the existing blockchain infrastructure inclusive of the collaboration system and vendors.
