Decentralized Finance (DeFI) leading firm, MakerDAO which is built on the <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/crypto/ethereum-classic-aka-the-original-ethereum-shows-potential-8-to-10%25-surge/">Ethereum</a> blockchain, has suddenly asked the community members to cast a<a href="https://vote.makerdao.com"> vote on March 13</a>. In addition, MakerDAO is set to conduct its first-ever Debt Auction.

As per the firm’s communication, the abrupt vote will determine the required readjustments that were pinpointed during the recent bear market; which saw the value of ethereum plunge by approximately 30% within 24 hours.

The native token of the MakerDAO DeFI protocol is referred to as DAI. DAI is made by the MakerDAO users who open collateralize debt positions on the Def I platform. The security, most preferably Eth, is deposited in an ETH smart contract.  Afterwards, a chunk of the collateral’s value is rewarded in the form of DAI tokens. After the user pays back the DAI, the security is paid back to the user.

In addition, security is also used to stabilize the price of DAI tokens. The MKR ecosystem boosts the creation or destruction of DAI tokens; on the basis of if the token is trading above or below $1. The loans that turn out to be bad debts or can no longer be supported by the security; are liquidated by auctioning for DAI to reimburse the overdue debts.

Nevertheless, the current red situation has reduced competition massively that some bidders were able to win auctions with zero DAI. This only worsens the MakerDAO network’s situation amid the plummeting of cryptocurrency prices.
<h2>MakerDAO to oversee first Debt Auction</h2>
MakerDAO will for the first time in its existence run a Debt Auction. During the process, when the entire system becomes unable to support the circulating DAI tokens; due to deterioration of the value of the collateral; MKR tokens will be minted automatically; and will be <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/crypto/usms-announces-auctioning-of-confisticated-bitcoin-recovered-from-criminals/">auctioned</a> for DAI to maintain a balance between DAI and the overdue debts.
