CryptoPunk #4156 just got sold for $10 million yesterday, making it one of the most expensive sales in the collection’s history. The token’s high valuation can be explained by its rarity as it’s one of just 24 ape CryptoPunks, the second rarest type of CryptoPunk between aliens, of which there are only nine, and zombies, of which there are 88.  The vast majority of CryptoPunks are mostly humans, of which there are 9,879.

A rare CryptoPunk ape NFT just got sold for over $10 million. Due to the variations in the price of Ethereum cryptocurrency, it’s only the third-largest sale in terms of ETH. In March, two CryptoPunks were sold for 4,200 ETH each. While the recent NFT garnered 2,500 ETH.

This is not the most expensive <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/news/cryptopunks-nft-sells-for-more-than-500-million/">CryptoPunk</a> to be ever sold. The most expensive Punk was sold for over $11.8 million at a Sotheby’s auction in June.

Meanwhile, a record-breaking sale of CryptoPunk was conducted on its native CryptoPunk marketplace conducted on the Larva Labs, which was around before some of the more popular non-fungible tokens (NFT) marketplaces like <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/news/opensea-ipo-prompts-criticism-from-crypto-users-who-were-expecting-a-token/">OpenSea</a>. However, Larva Labs does not register the $11 million sales, as it appears to be an off-chain sale conducted with cash.

LarvaLabs’ list of sales <a href="https://www.larvalabs.com/cryptopunks/topsales" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">suggests</a> that the recent sale of CryptoPunk #4156 is the largest by cash value, with an exact sale price of $10.26 million.

In October, someone bid 2,500 ETH on the rare CryptoPunk #6046 which if the Punk owner accepted, would have been the most expensive sale at the time at $9.5 million. However, the owner declined, citing that the rare punk was too tied to his own personal identity and brand.
