Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) has announced $600 million in funding for its new ‘Games Fund One’, an “inaugural fund dedicated to building the future of the games industry.”
<h2><strong>a16z Launches Its First Gaming VC Fund</strong></h2>
According to an official <a href="https://a16z.com/2022/05/18/games-fund-one-building-the-future-of-games/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">blog post</a>, Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) is launching a $600 million fund that will focus on a mix of game studios, gaming infrastructure companies, and consumer gaming software providers, similar to Discord and Twitch, the company says.

The fund was founded on the belief that games will play a pivotal role in defining how we socialize, play, and work over the next century, a16z said.

Notable backers in the fund include high-profile game industry executives such as David Baszucki, founder of Roblox; Jason Citron, founder of Discord; Marc Merrill, co-founder of Riot Games; Mike Morhaime, co-founder of Blizzard; Aleks Larsen and Jeffrey Zirlin, co-founders of Sky Mavis; Kevin Lin, co-founder of Twitch; Mark Pincus, founder of Zynga; and Riccardo Zacconi, founder of King.
<h2><strong>Foraying Into Crypto Space</strong></h2>
While Games Fund One is a16z’s first gaming VC fund, the firm has backed many successful gaming projects in the past which includes Zynga and Oculus, and has also invested in veteran talents from notable studios such as Riot Games and Epic Games.

A16z isn’t a crypto native firm but has become one of the largest names in the space. In June, it committed $2.2 billion for its third crypto fund, which was the largest crypto fund in history until Paradigm debuted its $2.5 billion vehicles in November.
