On September 9, 2019, Inside World Football <a href="http://www.insideworldfootball.com/2019/09/09/atletico-madrid-launch-cryptocurrency-fan-token-via-socios-com/">reported</a> that Atletico Madrid would be launching a Fan Token club brand in partnership with socios.com.
socios.com is a blockchain fan engagement and rewards platform run by Chiliz blockchain technology.

The platform will allow Atletico de Madrid fans to get rewards in the form of Fan Tokens, for participating in club polling and decision- making activities through an app. Chiliz is backed up by high-end Cryptocurrency exchange platforms like BInance and OK Blockchain Capital.

The Atletico de Madrid Fan Token will be traded against $<a href="https://medium.com/chiliz/chiliz-faq-376aafa0e18e">CHZ</a>, the Socios.com native token. Fans will be able to purchase the $CHZ through the app or through a crypto exchange platform. 

In a statement issued by Atletico Madrid’s Board Member Clement Villaverde, he expressed the club’s excitement of joining socios.com platform:

“For Atletico de Madrid it is a pleasure to join this technological platform that other great European clubs already use, and that will allow us to engage and interact with our fans from all over the world in a very innovative way. We are a club that is constantly committed to technological innovation and in this sense.”

The app will enhance the fan experience by giving more rewards to fans who frequently participate. These rewards will, in turn, offer fans access to exclusive club merchandise, games, and leaderboards.

The tokens will be available at $2 in the third quarter of 2019 through fan token offerings (FTOs). Fans can also obtain Fan Tokens free by using the app’s feature Token Hunt, which is geo-located.

Several other major football clubs were already working with socios.com before Atletico de Madrid joined in. These are West Ham (London based), Paris Saint Germain (French soccer club), and Juventus (Italy).
