According to a <a href="https://blog.bitmex.com/bmex-trading-is-coming/">statement</a> made by Bitmex on Tuesday, the cryptocurrency would be used to reward clients as the firm works to reclaim its market position in the derivatives industry. According to Bitmex, incentives will be given in the form of eliminated withdrawal fees, reduced trading fees, better staking rewards, and accessibility to new goods and services.

BMEX token airdrops began in February after the exchange was officially announced in December last year. Today, Bitmex reported that since February, it had airdropped millions of BMEX to over 80,000 merchants.  The business postponed the IPO of its cryptocurrency in June, blaming "market circumstances." However, Bitmex's chief marketing officer Benjamin Usinger believes that now is the ideal time for a launch since the exchange wants to contribute to an increase in liquidity and revive the cryptocurrency markets.
