EXMO, a UK-based cryptocurrency exchange, has <a href="https://info.exmo.com/en/notifications/exmo-security-incident-update/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">suffered</a> a security breach on its platform resulting in the suspension of all withdrawal activities. The stolen cryptocurrencies include Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), XRP, Ethereum Classic (ETC), Tether (USDT), and Zcash (ZEC). Analysts have estimated that the exchange might have lost almost $10.5 million worth of funds from the hot wallet breach. However, the exchange’s cold wallets remain untouched by the attack.
<h2>EXMO Cryptocurrency Exchange Hacked</h2>
Overall six cryptocurrencies were stolen out of the 57 supported cryptocurrencies on the platform. Each cryptocurrency is hosted on its own server.

EXMO said that production servers were not affected by the attack including information on transactions and client data remains unaffected by the hack. Correspondent <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/news/heres-why-many-people-advocate-for-the-cold-wallet-storage-of-cryptocurrencies/">crypto wallets</a>, however, were likely to be involved in the attack. EXMO asked other exchanges to block the accounts connected with the affected wallets.

As per crypto analyst Igor Igamberdiev, about 292 BTC (about $6.5 million) were stolen while another 18.5 BTC ($415,000) are waiting to get confirmed in the Bitcoin <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/news/bitcoin-satoshi-vision-bsv-unconfirmed-transactions-mempool-spike/">mempool</a>.  The rest of the stolen coins include 867 ETH (about $521,900), 476,521 XRP (about $247,700), 20,651 ETC ($126,800), 50,000 USDT ($50,000) and 39,285 ZEC ($2.7 million).

Most of the stolen funds were sent to the Poloniex crypto exchange. EXMO said that it had contacted <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/news/poloniex-customers-worried-as-exchange-suffers-data-security-breach/">Poloniex</a> with a request to block its associated wallets.
<h2>EXMO Informs London Police on the Attack</h2>
Most of the stolen bitcoin (BTC) was sent to <a href="https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/1A4PXZE5j8v7UuapYckq6fSegmY5i8uUyq" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">an address</a> that includes 306.99 BTC, worth around $7,206,200 at the time of publication.

EXMO after analyzing their logs on the affected servers has assumed that the attacker had access to some of its <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/news/alleged-drug-dealer-loses-keys-for-his-e536m-worth-bitcoin/">private keys</a>. The exchange further added that it is investigating the matter of how it was possible and has blocked all deposits and withdrawals on the exchange. It has even informed London police of the security breach.

EXMO has reassured its users that it will be able to reinstate withdrawals and deposits within the next few days.
