Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk says his deal to buy Twitter is “temporarily on hold” after the social network reported that false or spam accounts comprised less than 5 percent of its 226 million monetizable daily active users.

Tweeting a link to a May 2nd Reuters report on Twitter’s filing, Elon Musk stated that he wants to see the company’s calculations.

Twitter was worth about $35 billion as of Friday morning. Right after Musk's tweet, the price of Twitter's stock plunged more than 18 percent.

The Tesla boss earlier said that if his acquisition went through one of his priorities would be to remove "spam bots" from the platform, alongside prioritizing free speech and open-sourcing the platform’s ranking algorithms.

The company had earlier this month estimated that false or spam accounts represented fewer than 5% of its monetizable daily active users during the first quarter.
