Auto making giants, Ford has <a href="https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/feu/en/news/2019/10/15/ford-pilots-blockchain-tech-to-promote-cleaner-air-in-city-centr.html">announced</a> it will use Blockchain technology and geofencing to track and automatically fuel-efficient driving modes for its energy-efficient vehicles in Cologne, Germany.
Moreover, the American car manufacturer is aiming to analyze the real-world significance of these energy-efficient vehicles to the environment; vehicle owners and operators. The pilot, being conducted also in London and Valencia; will install nine Ford Transit Custom Plug-In Hybrid vans and one Tourneo Custom Plug-In Hybrid people-mover to the test in a variety of real‑world practical use cases.
In addition, by recording and analyzing the metadata; Ford aims to optimize the environmental benefits of its fleet of PHEV cars. Additionally, Europe’s Ford director Mark Harvey said:
“Ford is committed to delivering new, more environmentally sustainable vehicles that can help address the mobility challenges our cities face. [...] The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle trials with our partners in the City of Cologne build upon our ongoing electrification programs elsewhere in Europe, and bring us all closer to meeting our combined urban air quality goals.”
