Gemini, one of the major cryptocurrency exchange in the US  <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/gemini-appoints-u-k-and-european-money-laundering-reporting-officer-1028848510">announced</a> the hiring of Blair Halliday as the Chief Compliance Officer and Money Laundering Reporting Officer.  Halliday will run the calculated direction of Gemini's compliance program within the U.K. and Europe at large.

Moreover, the former Circle Compliance Officer will oversee the daily regulatory relationships and requirements. He will warrant the exchange’s continued commitment to complying with all the necessary regulatory recommendations. Particularly, Halliday will be established in London and he will directly report to Gemini's Managing Director of the U.K. and Europe. Additionally, he will have a close working relationship with Gemini’s NYC-based chief compliance officer, Noah Perlman. Noah is the former global head of financial crimes at Morgan Stanley.

This move comes as the new regulations go into effect this month; with the European Union’s Fifth Anti-Money Laundering Directive (AMLD5). In particular, AMLD5 requires all the cryptocurrency firms to adhere to the updated know-your-customer (KYC) and anti-money-laundering (AML) plan of action.
<h2>Gemini Awaiting e-Money License Review</h2>
According to Julian Sawyer, Gemini's Managing Director of U.K. and Europe; Halliday’s first task will be to verify whether Gemini’s risk management practices are in place; as the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) evaluates Gemini’s e-money license application. Sawyer said:
<blockquote>“At the moment, our customers in the U.K. have to send money to the U.S. as a wire transfer. An e-money license would allow them to deposit local currency without foreign exchange [costs].” </blockquote>
Furthermore, Halliday brings with him a wealth of experience on<a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/crypto/wef-announces-global-consortium-to-regulate-cryptocurrencies/"> regulations</a> and compliance having held the position in leading financial services firms. He has joined Gemini from Circle where he held a similar role for the EMEA region.
