International Monetary Fund (IMF) Chair Christine Lagarde has on several occasions hailed the advancement of cryptocurrencies. Lagarde has particularly been impressed with the design and the function they have in the modern world. She has identified that there is a wider social benefit to cryptocurrencies and has advocated for their development. Additionally, the IMF head notably stated that cryptocurrencies are inevitable and necessary around the world. In her current capacity as chief of the IMF, she has not implemented much that could boost crypto growth, development or adoption. However, in her next job, she could help foster crypto growth in Europe.

Christine Lagarde is set to be appointed as the next president of the European Central Bank. This position will offer Lagarde the influence and power to change financial regulations. This position could see her enact real change that would see the European region embrace cryptocurrencies. And this is something that has crypto investors excited.

If Lagarde is approved, she will be taking over the job in November this year. Real change in the agency will not be expected soon but with time, many expect that she will shake up the institution. She will be the first woman to head ECB and this means she will be under pressure to deliver and what better way than to shake up the financial system.

If she can get the European region on board the crypto bandwagon we could be staring at a global race to adopting cryptocurrencies. The U.S and China are in the race with China taking the lead. Given the trend here, it's about time Europe got in on the action, something that Legarde will be keen on.
