One of the UK's top universities, the London School of Economics (LSE) has joined the as a member of the Hedera Governing Council. This is the second higher education institution in the UK to join the governing council following the University College London last year.
<h2><b>LSE Is the Latest Member to Join Hedera Governing Council </b></h2>
London School of Economics (LSE) is the second higher education institution to <a href="https://hedera.com/blog/lse-joins-hedera-governing-council-to-advance-blockchain-research-for-social-good" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">join</a> Hedera Hashgraph’s pool of 39 global governing council members, following the University College London (UCL) last year.

As a member, LSE will advance the university’s growing research on blockchain and distributed ledger technologies (DLTs) and support sustainable and social impact projects. Students and faculty members can also access opportunities related to hackathons, thought leadership, and research opportunities around DLTs.

On running a Hedera network node alongside other council members, Carsten Sorensen, Associate Professor, Department of Management, LSE, said:

<i>“Joining the Hedera Governing Council provides a significant step forward in extending our research collaboration and knowledge sharing of digital transformation. In doing so, we aim to significantly extend our research footprint in understanding how DLT and blockchains can play a positive impact on society in pioneering digital sustainable projects."</i>

This is not the first time the university has dabbled in the blockchain universe. In fact, the team leading the LSE Blockchain/DLT initiatives has had prior experience in collaborating with central banks, regulators, and industry practitioners in advancing research, innovation, and application of DLTs.
<h2><b>Collaborative Development of Hedera Hashgraph Platform</b></h2>
Hedera Hashgraph’s governing council was established to drive collaborative development of the blockchain platform’s patented technology platform. The membership model of the governing council is based on a three-year rotation system, ensuring the democratic principles of the platform.

The members are tasked with governing changes to the Hedera software, run by millions of Hedera distributed nodes, to ensure the decentralized governance for Hedera’s DLT platform.

Existing council members include Chainlink Labs, Boeing, Deutsche Telekom, Google, IBM, LG, Nomura, Shinhan Bank, Standard Bank, Tata Communications, UCL, <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/news/hedera-hashgraph-council-includes-indian-company-wipro/">WIPRO</a>, and more.
