The chief technology officer at PayPal, one of the largest online payment companies in the world, Sri Shivananda has stated that in order for cryptocurrencies to flourish, consumers must be made aware of its advantages. The comment comes in response to the <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/crypto/indian-supreme-court-overrules-rbis-banking-ban/">Supreme Court’s decision</a> to uplift the ban on cryptocurrencies by the Reserve Bank of India, and cryptocurrencies now can be legally traded in the country. However, it is been reported that the Reserve Bank is planning to appeal against the decision.

He believes that recently there has been a paradigm shift and cryptocurrencies are being seen more as an asset now rather than currency. He<a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/need-to-show-cryptos-use-paypal-cto/articleshow/74547912.cms"> told</a> at the Economic Times Global Business Summit, he enunciated that the consumers need to be convinced that cryptocurrencies can be useful as a form of payment too. Sri Shivananda believes that the most important thing for now in the business is to to keep the consumers in mind. Once the consumers start viewing that there’s some leverage that would benefit them if they switch to cryptocurrency, everything else would fall life by itself.

Sri Shivananda implies that it is now the case of if but when will cryptocurrencies get adopted. He opines that it would require all forces to come together including the merchants, companies and the government too to aid the crypto adoption.

Paypal adopted digital payments way before any did and it currently holds a market capitalization of more than $130 billion. Facebook’s Libra had PayPal as its member in the start, however, Paypal decided to withdraw itself as it thought what Facebook’s Libra is promising is going to deliver are a wee-bit different. The whole idea of serving the “underserved” which Facebook was vocal about, Paypal didn’t see it happening in the near future and being far from convinced regarding it left the organisation, like so many.
