Regulators are taking a proactive approach toward cryptocurrency regulation given the increasingly high levels of participation from retail investors, according to the CEO of <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/news/trading-platform-etoro-adds-aave-and-yearnfinance-defi-tokens/">eToro</a> trading platform, Yoni Assia, the Financial Times (FT) <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/49dc3664-a8d1-4e31-bb50-5272809624e5" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">reports</a>.

<i>“We are seeing a significant increase in the interest of retail investors and traders in the crypto market. As a part of that growth, we should expect also regulators to carefully look at this growing business of retail investors in the crypto markets.”</i>

When imposing new rules, he said that regulators need to make sure they know what they're talking about when it comes to crypto and that it's here to stay:

Despite the growth of the nascent asset class, he did acknowledge the increased volatility associated with investing in digital assets:

<i>“We also want to make sure that we communicate well the risks of investing in high-risk assets. There’s no doubt an asset that went up 100 percent can very easily go down 50 percent. There’s no doubt that if something went up 1,000 percent it’s very volatile, and you should understand that as part of your portfolio allocation.”</i>

The call for increased regulation of cryptocurrencies has grown this year, as their value has soared to $ 1.5 trillion globally amid extreme price volatility.
