Samourai Wallet announced that it is partnering with French hardware retailer Nodl to create a device that supports a Lightning Network node, which synchronizes with Samourai's privacy-centric mobile wallet.

Exclusively for CoinDesk, Nodl co-founder Michel Luczak said this new product would be "a complete, self-validating, Lightning-supported node" that allows people to use the Bitcoin mobile wallet application without relying on Samourai Wallet servers. This has been a point of discussion for a long time, as critics argue that the portfolio's privacy features are insufficient if, anyway, users' transaction data is stored on a centralized server.

The new devices will be released this year, and the Samourai Wallet team told CoinDesk. Besides, Nodl owners will be able to upgrade their devices to add Samourai Wallet's Dojo software. This software includes a feature called Whirpool, which groups bitcoin transactions across multiple wallets to hide the origin of funds.

"In addition to Dojo coming preloaded on Nodl devices, we also want to preload the Whirlpool desktop mixer, which allows users to access and manage the mix in their Samourai wallet on their desktop," the Samourai team told CoinDesk.

Collaboration occurs when Nodl's sales register an increase, according to Luczak, who expects to sell approximately 500 devices in 2019, if the current trend continues.

"For the first time, you will have a one-click installation service, which is a mixing service, available to everyone," said Luczak.
