Visa, a payments giant has recently <a href="http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&amp;Sect2=HITOFF&amp;d=PG01&amp;p=1&amp;u=/netahtml/PTO/srchnum.html&amp;r=1&amp;f=G&amp;l=50&amp;s1=20200151682.PGNR." target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">filed </a>a patent application with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This patent application has been filed for the centralized digital currency which is based on blockchain. This single patent could be used to issue any central based digital currency (CBDC).

In the request application, there is a denomination of physical currency along with the serial number as well. It has also been mentioned that the digital currency will be generated by the central entity computer, and then it will be linked to the serial number. This digital currency will also be recorded on a blockchain. According to Visa, the central entity computer will also remove the physical <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/news/how-to-buy-or-sell-ethereum-for-fiat-currency/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fiat currency</a> by introducing the digital one.
<h2>Visa filed the original application back in November 2019</h2>
Even though Visa has recently announced this publically, the original application of this patent was filed back in November 2019. This announcement came during the time when various central banks from different parts of the world are preparing to launch their digital fiat currencies. The reason behind moving towards the digital currency by the central banks is because some huge firms like Facebook are planning to launch their fiat currencies which are a threat to the centralized monetary system.

It has been noticed that China has already developed the digital version of its fiat currency, Yuan. Many huge private firms like Alipay and many others have also played a huge role in the development of digital Yuan.
<h2>Cryptosystem to be superior to fiat currency system</h2>
Visa has also specified that the cryptocurrency system is far more superior to the fiat currency system. The reason is that money transfer with cryptocurrency is faster than the fiat money transfers. However, there are some problems also which are associated with the cryptocurrencies due to which the central banks are quite sceptical about launching digital fiat.

Visa has also mentioned that it will not be possible to completely convert the fiat currency to cryptocurrency due to several reasons. The major reason could be associated with the population of the country because everybody might not be familiar with electronic payment mode.
