Adoption of blockchain technology is increasing rapidly among various sectors and it could be seen in the education sector as well. The American Council of Education has recently published a report in which it discussed the use of blockchain technology in higher education. This is in contrast with the funding of six-months study by the Department of Education of the U.S.

American Council report based on interviews with leaders

This has been revealed that this report by the American Council is based on the interviews which have been taken with various leaders, organisations and technology providers across the country. The report stated that there are around 71 blockchain initiatives across the country. In these blockchain initiatives, there are several large-scale projects as well and some of them are led by Arizona State University and the Maricopa County Community College District.

According to Louis Soares, chief learning and innovative officer at American Council has said that both blockchain and DLT plays an important role in building better communication between the employers and institutions.

Challenges in creating digital identity

Soares has said that even though there is a wider adoption of blockchain technology and a lot of blockchain experiments, it still faces many challenges particularly those which are a proof of concept stage. He also said that the American Council on Education is still trying its best to deal with the challenges that come while creating a digital identity.

Now the results from the blockchain report will be used for a program that the Department of Education is funding. It will further introduce various programs that will simply empower the learners and along with this, it will also improve economic mobility. It will be done with the help of the Blockchain Innovation challenge. However, it is yet to be seen how the council will be able to deal with all the challenges related to blockchain.
