Cryptocurrency payment service platform BitPay has added support for Shiba Inu (SHIB), allowing merchants in its network to now accept the meme-based cryptocurrency including buying, storing, and swapping the token in its BitPay Wallet app.

Crypto payment service provider Bitpay <a href="https://bitpay.com/blog/bitpay-supports-shiba-inu/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">announced</a> Thursday that it now supports the meme cryptocurrency Shiba Inu (SHIB), allowing SHIB holders to pay for their daily items at thousands of BitPay retailers.
<blockquote><em>“Attention SHIBArmy! Shiba Inu (SHIB) joins the lineup of coins now available at BitPay. Now you can buy, store, swap, and spend with this Ethereum ERC-20 token directly in the BitPay app</em>.,” the announcement read.</blockquote>
The move comes after the company received an overwhelming number of requests to include the meme coin as a payment option from the token's community supporters, the SHIBArmy.

Users of BitPay will now be able to spend their SHIB <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/news/crypto-exchange-bitstamp-catalogs-shiba-inu-as-its-adoption-expands/">tokens</a> using the BitPay virtual card which also acts as a wallet at any outlet that accepts Mastercard. The transaction will involve converting Shiba tokens into USD or paying altogether in SHIB depending on the outlet’s payment preference.

Apart from shopping at various outlets, users will be able to purchase gift cards using the firm’s app at hundreds of businesses and shops.
<h2><strong>SHIB Catches the Fancy of Major Retailers</strong></h2>
Earlier in November, AMC CEO, Adam Aron, asked BitPay to list SHIB so that his theater chain company could add SHIB for online payments of movie tickets and concessions. Eventually, the company announced adding support for the canine-based cryptocurrency in Q1, 2022. Besides SHIB, <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/news/amc-theatres-reveals-when-shiba-inu-will-be-accepted-as-a-payment-method/">AMC</a> already accepts payments for tickets in bitcoin, ether, litecoin, and bitcoin cash.

Just last month, electronics retailer Newegg announced that it would start accepting SHIB before the Christmas holidays, becoming the first BitPay customer to do so.

SHIB’s price might have plunged more than 60% from its top in October, but the meme currency continues to forge new partnerships to keep itself afloat. Recently, another popular crypto exchange Kraken listed SHIB after months of teasing.
