Input Output Global (IOG) formerly known as “IOHK”, the company responsible for Cardano’s research and development, has launched a permissionless Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) sidechain Alpha on testnet.
<h2>IOG Launches EVM Sidechain Alpha on Testnet</h2>
On Sunday, IOG tweeted that the alpha version of this Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) sidechain had been released on the testnet. The initiative will enable developers to build different solidity-based applications on the Cardano network, as well as import their solidity apps from Ethereum to Cardano.

As of yet, it is not known when the EVM sidechain on the mainnet will be officially launched for a full-fledged roll out.

A few days ago, IOG shared a tweet explaining how Solidity developers could “apply for access to the EVM sidechain alpha release.”

<h2>EVM Sidechain Was Discussed Back in April</h2>
Meanwhile, the move to roll out the EVM sidechain was first discussed in April, in a <a href="https://iohk.io/en/blog/posts/2022/04/28/interoperability-is-key-to-blockchain-growth/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">blog post</a> titled “Interoperability is key to blockchain growth.” In the post, the EVM sidechain as well as five other Cardano sidechains were discussed.

IOG noted that the EVM sidechain has full compatibility with Ethereum upgrades and tools, Web3 wallets, and Ouroboros Byzantine Fault Tolerance consensus protocol including its ability to inherit security from the <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/news/cardano-metaverse-project-cardalonia-launches-staking-platform-set-to-release-playable-metaverse-avatars/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cardano</a> main chain.
