Genopets: The World's First Move-to-Earn Game Built on Solana

We've seen a rise in the popularity and adoption of video games in recent years. Players often like the feeling of living through their character's development and evolving with them. To add to this, the interactive nature of the gameplay of most of these video games makes customizing and playing with these characters a fun, enjoyable and engaging journey. Currently, Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) have surged as well in popularity (since the turn of the year) and this has led to a growth in their various use cases. Developers have found a way to bring these two technologies together —video games and NFTs— and this has led to the play-to-earn games that are leading the way to the future of gaming right now. 

This journey has ultimately led us to Metaverse gaming. Many Metaverse games are based on the evolution model and to understand the impact these games have had in the blockchain industry, we'll discuss a game that is slowly winning hearts and turning heads in the industry; Genopets. 

What are Genopets?

Genopets is a Free-to-Play, Move-to-Earn blockchain-based NFT mobile game that is built on the Solana blockchain and has evolved gaming modelled into it. The game is simply the evolution of the users and their Genopets and it makes living an active lifestyle fun and rewarding. Players get rewarded for their physical activities in a play-to-earn economy by simply using data tracked by their smartphones or wearable fitness devices. This way, every single step a player takes in real life, counts as a step in the Genoverse. Players get XP and they can use this to travel through the Genoverse and progress as they play the game more. 

This is called Move-to-Play. With this concept, players will be playing and earning in Genopets wherever they go. They only have to stay active. When the Move-to-Play concept is paired with a Play-to-Earn economy, players are rewarded for their labour and this is what is referred to as the Move-to-Earn model of gaming. 

Think of Genopets as the digital familiars of the players. A Genopet is like the "NFT spirit animal" that a player's fitness data and personality has been encoded. The more a player stays active, the fuller their potential on the Genoverse is unlocked. Put simply, Genopets is the first Move-to-Earn MMORPG that rewards players for exercising their body and mind. The platform has a battle arena where players can compete in fast-paced mini-games. In the arena, they can sharpen their memory, reaction time and cognition to become the Arena Champion. Moving out of the arena, there are a lot of ways to earn income in the Genoverse. Players can trade their crafted items, move-sets, lands and accessories on NFT Marketplaces. 

In traditional games, when a player purchases a rare accessory or improves a character’s ability using the in-game currency, those items they buy are stuck within the games. Players can not move them to other games and once they stop playing the game, all of the money, in-game items and time spent are lost. NFT Games however are changing this status quo. By owning NFTs, players can own the things they earn and buy in-game.  

Elements of the Genoverse

  • $GENE Token — This is a fungible token for staking and governance and it represents ownership in the Genoverse. Holders of the $GENE token can vote on the future of the gameplay on Genoverse and they can also stake their tokens to earn rewards. 

    • $KI Token — This is a fungible in-game token that is used to reward players who have earned them because they purchased a habitat. The $KI token is used to craft and design habitats and other items, accelerate the evolution of a Genopet and be used in battles. 

      • XP — These are experience points that are in a state in Genopet's NFT metadata and they increase as the user and the Genopet takes more actions. Once the required amount of experience points are obtained, the Genopet can then be upgraded. 

        • Habitats — These are where Genopets live and evolve. Habitats can be purchased or crafted using $GENE, $KI. 

          • Why Genopets? 

          Genopets is a platform that encourages us to recognise, love, embrace and evolve who the users are.

          • Players must be bold to be able to evolve. 

            • Dual Token System 

            The Genoverse ecosystem is powered by a dual token system. The tokens are $GENE and $KI and they've got multi-currency Solana support. Genopets in the Genoverse ecosystem are supported and governed with the use of the $GENE token. This token is used for both utility and governance. 

            Genopets are governed and supported by the native fungible $GENE tokens and they will be used for both utility and governance. Players will earn as in-game rewards $KI tokens every day through their movements and their battles. 

            VIP Access 

            Holders of GENE will get priority access to new in-game content launches.

            Governance 

            Holders of $GENE will be able to vote and decide on new in-game features which include items, gameplay, quests, locations, and new integrations.

            Staking for Rewards 

            Players/Users on the Genopets platform can join a decentralized rewards pool that qualifies them to earn the in-game currency $KI.
