Huobi Global, a cryptocurrency exchange, has <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/huobi-global-welcomes-vincent-lau-as-new-managing-director" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">announced</a> the appointment of Vincent Lau, as the company’s new Managing Director. Lau has significant experience working in the crypto industry, having worked with major cryptocurrency exchanges such as <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/news/new-york-shutting-down-bitfinex-and-tether-for-hiding-millions-of-losses/">Bitfinex</a> and <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/news/decentralized-blockchain-platform-flow-now-listed-on-okex/">OKEx</a>. Beyond the crypto industry, he has worked for e-commerce marketplace such as Groupon and marketing firm Iclick Interactive.
<h2><strong>Vincent Lau Handling Huobi's Global Expansion</strong></h2>
Lau’s appointment in Huobi Global is tasked with handling the firm’s international expansion, strategic development, and local operations. The cryptocurrency exchange intends to expand in key markets across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and the European Union.

Lau expressed his enthusiasm for joining Huobi at a time when the <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/news/huobi-labuan-receives-approval-to-provide-trading-services-in-malaysia/">crypto exchange is taking its steps towards global expansion</a>, saying:

<i>"Huobi is well-positioned to become a global player with its compliance and security-first approach. While Huobi is already established in the Asia Pacific region, there are still many untapped opportunities for the brand both domestically and abroad. I look forward to working with Huobi to expand the brand globally and helping bring financial access and opportunities to all communities."</i>

Lau will also oversee Huobi’s push into DeFi and will head up overseas development for the firm’s smart contract platform, Huobi ECO Chain. This will come under the promotion of its H-tokens.

Huobi’s H-tokens are assets issued on Ethereum that are backed by cryptocurrencies from other blockchains.  The cryptocurrency exchange states that the tokens serve as a bridge between the centralized market and the DeFi market.

On March 4. Huobi Technology Holdings announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Huobi Asset Management has <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/news/huobi-announces-launch-of-asset-management-platform-and-custody-services/">received approval</a> to manage portfolios of crypto asset management. The exchange has been granted a license from Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission.

Following the announcement, Huobi is now launching bitcoin, Ethereum, and multi-strategy funds. The new funds along with Huobi's presence could bring more conventional Asian investors into the crypto space.

Huobi is a Seychelles-based cryptocurrency exchange that was founded in China. The company has offices in Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, and the United States. In August 2018, Huobi Global became a publicly listed Hong Kong company.
