REvil Ransomware Group Demands $42M, Threatens to Reveal Trump’s Data

Ransomware threats have increased to a very great extent over time. Recently, REvil Ransomware group which has released huge amounts of data from famous celebrities is now targeting the U.S. President, Donald Trump. This is coming up when there are elections in the U.S. and the gang is threatening President Trump to spoil his image amid the elections. It has demanded cryptocurrency worth $42 million to not expose the data. This gang has stolen around 1TB legal secrets from some of the huge celebrities of the entertainment industry.

REvil ransomware group attacked New York’s law firm

It has released 2GB of legal documents from those celebrities, it has also attacked a law firm in New York named Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks. This gang has attacked the firm and stolen 756 GB data which includes telephone numbers, email addresses and other confidential data. This REvil ransomware group is also known as Sodinokibi. On Thursday, it posted a message in which they have doubled their ransom and threatened to reveal ‘dirty laundry’ related to Trump.

They are threatening to reveal the data in nine different releases if their demand for ransom will not be fulfilled. The gang is asking for ransom in both Monero and Bitcoin. However, this is still not clear what would be President Trump’s link to this law firm as he has never been his client till date.

Grubman refuses to negotiate 

It has also been released through a news report that the law firm Grubman still does not want to negotiate with the REvil ransomware group even after such huge threats. According to the firm, this gang will release the data even if their demands will be fulfilled. The FBI is considering this attack to be similar to a terror attack on the firm by this gang. Some people are considering this ransomware demand to be the largest one to date.
