Jamestown, the owner of Times Square in New York, in partnership with Digital Currency Group (DCG) is recreating the iconic site for the New Year’s Eve ball drop in <a href="https://www.cryptoknowmics.com/news/decentraland-price-prediction-2021-2025-mana-25-by-the-end-of-2025/">Decentraland</a>, a blockchain-based virtual world. The event marks the first time that a prominent cultural celebration such as the New Year's Eve Ball Drop has been replicated into the metaverse.
<h2><strong>New Year Party Comes to Metaverse</strong></h2>
According to an official <a href="https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20211229005288/en/Digital-Currency-Group-and-Jamestown-Partner-to-Bring-One-Times-Square-to-the-Decentraland-Metaverse" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">announcement</a>, Digital Currency Group (DCG), a crypto company and one of the largest owners of digital real estate in Decentraland, has teamed up with real-life property firm Jamestown, the owner of Times Square in Manhattan, to recreate the New Year’s Eve ball drop in the metaverse. Decentraland’s One Times Square is located at (-106, -119) coordinates on the platform and is set to be the first high-rise building in the virtual space.

Moreover, the metaverse New Year's Eve celebration will coincide with Decentraland's “MetaFest 2022” global party, which features immersive games, virtual rooftop lounges, CryptoArt galleries, music, and entertainment acts.

Even a live stream of the real-world Times Square and virtual Zoom parties will stream on digital billboards, bringing global partygoers together in the metaverse to celebrate the New Year. The event goes live on December 31 at 11 pm EST.

Commenting on the development, Simon Koster, DCG’s Head of Real Estate, stated:

The announcement comes at a time when the real-life Times Square ball drop is limited to only 15,000 socially distanced and fully vaccinated individuals due to rising COVID-19 cases. Usually, the event hosts up to 58,000 attendees.
